Gerardine Aldamar
Gérardine Aldamar is an artist based in Philadelphia and received her BFA in Photography and Digital Arts from Moore College of Art & Design. Working in primarily sound and video installation, her work considers the components of racial identity and the black experience. She is currently focusing her attention on black/natural hair culture and the exoticisation and appropriation of it in (white) mass media. Using her own experiences with natural hair, she seeks to debunk the glamourised appeal that the media has pinned on black (hair) culture and repossess it back into the “hands” of its rightful owners.
